The Exige S is the latest addition to the range. It is a real sportscar that redefines the term, “extreme performance”.
With 90.5 kw/litre (121 hp/litre, 123 PS/litre), it is one of the most powerful production cars in the world for its engine size.
The Exige S is not just a track day enthusiasts’ car, but a sublime sportscar that’s equally at home on the back roads, motorways and autobahns as it is on city streets and race tracks.
So what does the acceleration feel like in a Lotus Exige S? Truly addictive, giving a safe, but exhilarating experience that you can only get from such a finely-honed sportscar. The Exige S sprints to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.3 exhilarating seconds.
The Exige S can also be tailored to your requirements through a range of factory fitted ‘option packs’ and dealer fitted accessories.
This car does not just demand to be driven – it actively encourages you to do so through it’s addictive personality.
Lotus has just announced details of a very special limited edition - one that a mere 25 people will be lucky enough to own.
The Exige S Club Racer celebrates the company's monumental racing heritage - most visibly through its paintwork.
The sky blue finish harks back to club racers of the '60s (check out Sir Stirling's overalls at Goodwood), and is set off by a 'Phantom Black' tri-stripe. What's more, in a nod to the Nurburgring track decal, Lotus has created its own sticker, of its Hethel test track! This proudly adorns the Club Racer - and we're sure the company can arrange for all lucky owners to do some hot laps, ensuring the sticker will be there on merit.
Lotus reckons the £39,950 car is "a real value proposition", supporting this argument with a long list of standard equipment. The Exige normally offers a series of upgrade packs: from these, the Club Racer has the Sport Pack, the Touring Pack, the Super Touring Pack, a Sports Exhaust (so noisy, they can only fit it once the car's been registered), black leather and, essential for long summer trackdays, air conditioning (don't feel soft - they even have it on Le Mans cars nowadays). Against the Exige S' price of around £35,000, this does indeed look cracking value to us.
And there'll be no shortage of performance; indeed, this road car will probably outperform many of those 1960s racers. It produces 218hp at 7,800rpm, 158lb/ft of torque, and can blare to 8,000rpm - or 8,5000rpm for two seconds, for those 'do or die' manoeuvres. All combine to give a blistering 0-60mph time of 4.1 seconds. It has something cars of the '60s didn't, too: downforce. At 100mph, there's 19kg pushing the front down, and 22kg at the rear. This is what helps make it such a sublime machine to drive. Certainly, the Club Racer won't be hanging about - and, with value such as it offers, that's in more than one sense of the word.
